Maharashtra Day Celebration at Thane Central Prison

Maharashtra Day celebration at Thane Central Prison

Shruti Sandhaan Foundation celebrated Maharashtra Day with the inmates of Thane Central Prison. It was unique for a particular reason,

The foundation has been conducting music classes for the inmates since October 2025. The teachers from Aas Academy have been training the inmates in light Hindi music. Statistics show that no class has been cancelled since the classes began, and those who enrolled have never missed a single session. That is some dedication, we must admit.

Some of them were selected to sing for an audience of 3000 within the Jail Premises. There was incredible talent on display today. A few of them sang with such energy and finesse. They were ably supported by Ms Shoonya Khare and Ms Rachna Kothari as duet partners and Mr Milind Jadhav and his team on the music.

Here comes the best part. *A project such as this, where inmates are trained through regular classes and made to perform in a programme curated for them, has no precedent in any jail in India.* Thanks to the Jail Superintendent, Mrs Rani Bhosale, for green-lighting this. The foundation is in this for the long haul. (Special thanks to Mr Umesh Rao and Mr Deepak Baghav for helping us in this process)

Thanks to Ms Rekha Sangani for bringing in the comfort to the singers (several embracing stage for the first time) through her smooth anchoring.

We and the jail authorities were overwhelmed by the response we received, and it is believed that the batch numbers will grow rapidly. This program is likely to encourage several others to come forward and get trained.
